SKENE HOUSE HOTELSUITES: WEEKEND THEATRE AND CULTURE BREAKS
A weekend of covers and tributes - with a Scottish twist!
17 – 19 April 2008
A weekend to celebrate musical talent with a Scottish connection - connections that range from the sublime to the “ridiculous” (ridiculous in the unbelievable sense)!
Thursday 17 April: Marti Pellow – “Sentimental Me”
As well as fronting the Glasgow band Wet Wet Wet, which so far have enjoyed 25 UK 40 Top singles, 3 Number Ones and 15 million album sales, Marti Pellow has established himself as a phenomenally successful solo artist. His first solo album went straight into the Top 10, and he has since released two further albums. ‘Sentimental Me’, a collection of ‘Songs for lovers’ is soon to be released.
Friday 18 April: Hells Bells – a tribute to AC/DC
AC/DC, the Australian hard rock band, was formed by the Scottish brothers Angus and Malcolm in 1973. After several changes in the line up, the band’s driver, Ronald Belford "Bon" Scott, another Scot, who had previous experience as a singer, became their vocalist in 1974! And so the legend was born.
Hells Bells are an accomplished AC/DC tribute band who have performed all over the UK as well as Holland, Germany and Ireland in addition to Moshulu in Aberdeen. If you love AC/DC then you will love their “high voltage” performance. Remember your school uniform!
Saturday 19 April – A Tribute to Elvis
Lee 'Memphis' King was officially declared the best Elvis Tribute Artist in the world at the prestigious 2005 Collingwood Elvis Festival held annually in Canada.
Accompanied by his top level orchestra and singers and wearing costumes which are accurate in every detail, 'Lee 'Memphis' King' recreates it all with stunning authenticity - the voice, the look and the moves. For more information click here.
P.S. Did you know that a best-selling Scottish author has discovered that Elvis Presley, the King of rock and roll, is actually a Scot? Allan Morrison, in his book The Presley Prophecy, has traced Elvis Presley's ancestors back more than 250 years. Click here for more details.
Tracing your ancestry – Are you one of the 28 million people world-wide who might have Scottish origins? Perhaps you are Scottish but want to know more about your ancestors? To find out more about tracing your ancestry while you are visiting Aberdeen please contact the Aberdeen and North East Family History Society for more details.
