Thursday 1 May 2008:  RSNO Seasonal Finale - Brilliant Benedetti!

Scotland’s classical superstar Nicola Benedetti is back in town at the Music Hall to help deliver a stunning finale to another successful RSNO season. 

Programme: Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No 1, and Beethoven’s Symphony No 7.

Stephane Deneve, Musical Director - recognised internationally as an exciting young conductor of the highest calibre.  A graduate of the Paris Conservatoire where he was awarded a unanimous First Prize in 1995.  Nicola Benedetti, Violin - Named BBC’s Young Musician of the Year 2004, Nicola Benedetti has captivated audiences and critics with her performances leading.  Nicola plays the Earl Spencer (c1712) Stradivarius, courtesy of Johnathan Moulds.

Friday 2 May, 7.30pm: The Solid Silver 60s Show

Now in its 23rd year, The Solid Silver 60s Show, at the Music Hall, brings together the unforgettable some unforgettable talents of that era: Gerry and the Pacemakers (You’ll Never Walk Alone), TheSwinging Blue Jeans (The Hippy Hippy Shake), Dave Berry (The Crying Game) and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich ('Bend It').  The only place to hear the classic hits performed by the original hitmakers.

3 and 4 May 2008: Aberdeen Artists’ Society 74th Annual Exhibition and Ralph Steadman

In addition to many examples from the Gallery’s exceptional permanent collection, that includes work by the Impressionists and the Scottish Colourists, Aberdeen’s Art Gallery has two exhibitions running over “our” weekend of music and art.

Aberdeen Artists’ Society 74th Annual Exhibition is an open exhibition that provides professional, established, amateur and emerging artists with a platform to show an exciting range of work including painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewellery, textiles, and film.  The Ralph Steadman exhibition offers an opportunity to see the witty series of etchings of famous authors, including Virginia Woolf, Samuel Beckett and Hunter S Thomson, created by this world-renowned artist and illustrator.
