Teen Skene: Fish & Chips
After my friend persistently telling me that I must visit “The Bay” and Aunty Betty’s Ice Cream shop, I finally took a drive out to Stonehaven, and I certainly was not disappointed.
“The Bay” Fish and Chip Shop is a definite place to visit while in Aberdeen. You may just think this is your ordinary fish and chip shop, with the generic menu and prices, but the taste is out of this world. The food is cooked to perfection and tastes absolutely delicious! It is even presented in a quirky box with a plastic knife and fork (something that is hard to find in a chipper!). It tastes even better when you are sitting outside eating it in front of the sea!
Following your delicious meal at the chipper, right next door to “The Bay” is Aunty Betty’s ice cream shop (featured in the Ice Cream blog post). This is the quirkiest ice cream shop I have ever been into. There are sweets rows of sweet jars everywhere you look and the atmosphere is buzzing! There is also a variety of different ice cream flavours, ranging from plain old vanilla to spearmint flavoured ice cream! The staff give very generous portions of ice cream and also ask if you want toppings, which of course, you have to say yes! They put a variety of different sweets and wafers and flakes on your ice cream, making it look fun and also very delicious! At very reasonable prices, you must visit Aunty Betties Ice Cream Shop!
Both places are great to visit as they are right on the beach front. If you are lucky enough to go on a sunny day – which fortunately I was – there are plenty of benches and chairs to sit at and enjoy your food. However, I have also been told that it is also just as enjoyable as eating it in the car!
Hope you enjoy your trip to Stonehaven as much as I did! Both shops can be very busy – with queues up to 40 minutes during peak hours – so arrive in plenty time so that you don’t have to wait around forever!
