Behind the scenes at Skene House HotelSuites – The Property Services Department
This hard working department ensures that our 189 suites across three locations (and each with its own unique style) are maintained to the highest standard of comfort and safety. After speaking with Steven, rest assured you are in very safe hands! Steven has extensive work experience with multi-national property services organisations as well as our own home grown TBH Retail owned by Sir Tom Hunter.
During his time with Sir Tom Hunter, Steven was responsible for 300 retail properties across the U.K and Ireland, including the refurbishment of 120 stores over a period of just 3 years. Following this, with American multi-national organisation Aramark, Steven was responsible for the refurbishment and project management of Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University Serveries.
Since returning to Skene House HotelSuites after a period with Aramark, Steven says that his objective is to improve the efficiency of the property services department, introducing preventive measures and strict codes of practice.
Running throughout the Skene House HotelSuites company culture is the ethos of high quality customer service, which doesn’t stop with the front of house staff – this principle runs behind the scenes too as Steven demonstrates: “The sites are our customers” - he explains that he sees each of the Skene House properties as the customer of the property services department where service delivery is just as important to them as it is to the managers of each hotel site. Steven says that his job is to ensure that site managers don’t have to worry about maintenance issues and can concentrate on what they do best – satisfying the guests.
When asked about the sorts of qualities he looks for in candidates for the property services department Steven says that he looks for someone who is practical, logical and analytical, preferably someone with knowledge of engineering but not a prerequisite, someone with good customer service and communication skills, knowledge of current health and safety legislation is very important as well as someone with the ability to deliver to the best of his ability on time and on budget.
Lastly, I asked Steven how he would sum up Skene House HotelSuites – he said that it is a forward thinking business, focused on guest satisfaction and constantly improving to stay ahead of the competition.
