Careers at Skene House HotelSuites pave the way for exciting opportunities
Congratulations to Emily Line, Receptionist at Skene House Holburn
Last week Skene House Holburn and the wider Skene House HotelSuites team said a sad farewell to Emily Line who has been welcoming guests to Skene House Holburn over the past three years. Emily has secured a new role with Oil and Gas UK as a Business Support Assistant with the objective utilising the business side of her degree qualifications.
Emily is a great example of how a degree in hospitality combined with industry work experience can open up many opportunities. Emily studied Tourism Management at Robert Gordon University, which included a six month work placement with Disney in the US. Upon graduation, Emily took a full-time position as receptionist here at Skene House Holburn.
Reflecting on her time at Skene House Holburn, Emily says she has enjoyed meeting different guests with interesting backgrounds and stories to tell. When asked what differentiates Skene House Holburn from the other two properties at Whitehall and Rosemount, Emily credits the fact that Holburn is a smaller property with a loyal and regular following of guests with whom she had the opportunity to build a good rapport with over the years. “Holburn really has this home-from-home feel which is more difficult to achieve at larger hotels. Holburn has a lovely welcoming lounge and cosy feel. Our size means that we can understand and meet the needs and preferences of our guests and remain flexible to the changing needs of their business.”
When asked what tips she would like to pass on to others considering entering the hospitality industry, Emily says that you must be able to handle pressure in busy and at times stressful situations. You must be adaptable to change, no two days are the same and first and foremost you must be customer focused. Putting the customer at the centre of everything you do is paramount at Skene House HotelSuites.
“Reception is a great place to start if you want to work in hospitality. You are the main point of contact for everything that occurs in the hotel. You gain experience in communicating with all departments and all levels of seniority. You must be professional at all times.”
Join us in wishing Emily all the best of luck in her new role!
