Make a Splash!
With the legacy of the London Olympics and Scotland gearing up for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, sport seems to be everyone's mind.
Whether you're an avid swimmer or simply enjoy a splash around in the pool - look no further, here is the guide to the best swimming pools in the Aberdeen area!
The Beach Leisure Centre is the best swimming pool in Aberdeen. Situated at the beach with very reasonable prices you are sure to have a fun and cheap day out. The best part of the beach swimming pool is the 4 flumes, each one has its own twist! There is one free one, which is open during specific hours of the day and is quite tame compared to the others. The other 3 water slides you have to pay for and you can collect and pay for your band when first entering the centre. There are 3 different slides, one with a rubber ring, one with twists and turns and the other one it a vertical drop - warning this one is very scary and if you don't like getting water all over you then I wouldn't recommend it!
An extra feature of the beach's swimming pool is the wave machine, this is when the water starts doing wave like motions and it feels like you are in the sea! For those who are more into chilling out, visit the Jacuzzi bath which is perfect to relax and de-stress especially after a busy day!
Take a day trip out to Stonehaven and visit Aberdeen’s only open air swimming pool! On a sunny day you wouldn't believe you were in Scotland. It's a real novelty to be able to swim outdoors and enjoy the spectacular backdrop of the quaint harbour of Stonehaven. Be sure to check out their website as the pool is on open at certain times of the year!
If you have time to visit Dundee - about an hours drive away from Aberdeen - I would recommend that you visit the Olympia swimming pool! There are quite big waterslides and it's well worth a visit for the fun factor.
Smaller, more local pools include Hazlehead pool, Bridge of Don and Cults which are all very cheap and easy to visit!
If you are relocating to Aberdeen there are also many gym and swimming pool clubs that you can become members of such as Kippie Lodge, RGU, David Lloyd, Bannantyne’s and many more!
Guests at Skene House Holburn can ask your receptionist for day passes to Nuffield Health and Fitness.
So there you go, no excuse to leave to fitness regime at home when you travel. Proof that Aberdeen has plenty of opportunities to stay fit and healthy whilst you are here for business or leisure.
