Rhys Perry - Assistant Manager - Rosemount

A warm welcome to our newest member of the team Rhys Perry!

Rhys is now the Assistant Manager of Skene House Rosemount, helping Manager Jan Millard with the day-to-day operations of the hotel suites and conference suites.

My interview with Rhys talks through his background and experience, his first impressions of Skene House and his future aspirations for his role at Skene House and beyond!

Rhys has a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry, rising through the ranks of a deluxe four star hotel and conference venue in the central belt.

Rhys was once destined to become a hairdresser, however, a chance part-time Christmas job soon changed his career prospects. Spending six years at a brand new hotel start-up allowed Rhys to learn a diverse set of skills in an extremely short period of time. Lucky enough to have a strong mentor who realised Rhys’ potential, he was offered full time employment instead of taking up a course in hairdressing.

Rhys’ first year of hard work paid off when he got his first promotion. At the age of just 18 years, Rhys was supervising Conference and Banqueting at a four star 150 room hotel with Spa. He then went through rigorous training in hospitality and leadership, which ultimately led him to his 2nd promotion at just 20 years old, to Assistant to the General Manager of the group’s wedding venue. Continuing his stellar performance, Rhys was shortly promoted to Assistant Venue Manager for the group’s newest edition, a 5 star exclusive use venue where Rhys was responsible for bringing in sales and developing the growth of the business.

When asked if he had any advice for candidates wishing to enter the hospitality industry, Rhys believes that his successes were attributable to the fact that he launched his career within a new start-up where he was given development opportunities, mentorship and the freedom to take risks and make decisions – in fact, this was probably his biggest learning curve and highly values the opportunity to take calculated risks.

At a new chapter in his life and looking for more challenges, Rhys was attracted to Skene House because of the heritage of the company, having working closely with the owner of his first hotel, he wanted to remain in an independent hotel business which progresses employees through the hotel business. Rhys also says that he liked the unique concept of serviced apartments with hotel services and says he is looking forward to learning more about the serviced apartment side of the business.

When you meet Rhys you will instantly acknowledge his drive and determination. When asked about his future aspirations for his role at Skene House Rosemount and beyond, Rhys had a knowing smile. He aspires to be a great leader for the team at Rosemount. Alongside Jan his manager, Rhys wants to share his skills and experiences to streamline operational processes and improve efficiency without comprising the high quality standards. He hopes to bring new and fresh ideas to ensure that Skene House Rosemount stay ahead of competitors and to adapt quickly to changing market conditions and new hotel openings. Rhys will be key to team building and ensuring that everyone is working towards the Skene House brand values:

Quality – Value- Customer Focused - Friendly Professional Service – Reliable – Scottish- Relaxing -Honest
