5 Minutes with the Managers
This week's interview takes place at Skene House Whitehall where I chat to Karen Barbour (Manageress) and Beverley Graham (Assistant Manager) to find out more about life at Skene House HotelSuites, Aberdeen and to answer a few questions that they are regularly asked by their guests.
Interviewer (Rosalind): First of all, congratulations on maintaining the no.1 spot on TripAdvisor for an entire year! Skene House Whitehall was reviewed by its guests and ranked No.1 across 63 hotels in Aberdeen. This is a huge achievement and one that all of the staff at Skene House HotelSuites is very proud of.
This interview aims to give our followers some insight to one part of the driving forces behind the success of Skene House Whitehall. Karen and Beverley are passionate about leading their teams of receptionists, housekeepers, concierges and breakfast staff and aim to bring out the best of them with plenty of rewards and incentives.
Q. How long have you worked at Skene House HotelSuites?
Karen: 18 months – I joined Skene House in June 2011
Beverley: Since June 2007 - 5 years
Q. What did you do before joining Skene House HotelSuites?
Karen: I was the manager of another well-known accommodation provider in the city.
Beverley: I was at University studying BA Hons. in Hospitality Management, I came here in 2007 as a placement student, worked part-time whilst I completed my final year and then returned full-time when I graduated.
Q. What is the best bit about your job?
Karen: I enjoy the fact that every day is different, you never know what to expect.
Beverley: The variety. Every day is different and you arrive each day not knowing what is going to happen – that is the best and worst bit actually!!
Q. What do you think makes Skene House HotelSuites special and what makes it stand out from its competitors?
Karen: Quality of service and customer service.
Beverley: Our staff – they are all very customer focused and love to do a good job.
Q. How would you describe Skene House Whitehall compared to Skene House Rosemount and Skene House Holburn?
Karen: We are a more family orientated site; we have gardens, children’s toys, games in the lounge. Our quiet location is ideal for families.
Beverley: I agree, we are the more family friendly site, we have toys for the kids and the lounge is very welcoming for families to relax in.
Q. What do you like most about Aberdeen?
Karen: It is a safe and clean city, with lots of interesting people.
Beverley: Our lovely beach, on the odd nice day it is beautiful to walk along.
Q. Where would you recommend guests go for a good meal in Aberdeen?
